Unknown Mortal Orchestra Share Instrumental Album 'IC-01 Hanoi'

Friday 26th October, 2018 9:12AM

One killer album in a year isn't enough for Ruban Nielson's world-conquering Unknown Mortal Orchestra,  they've unveiled today IC-01 Hanoi, a seven track collection following hot on the heels of April's Sex & Food. Recorded at Hanoi's Phu Sa Studios in between sessions for Sex & Food, the new album sees the core UMO team of Ruban Nielson, brother Kody Nielson (Silicon) and Jake Portrait brewing up a mind-melting cauldron of psychedelic rock and cosmic funk. Passages recall UMO's stretched-out 27 minute Christmas single 'SB-05' along with Kody Nielson's debut solo EP Devils, while other moments tune into the vibrations of such aural explorers as US jazz fusion pioneer Miles Davis, German motorik innovators Can or even Japanese improvised rock masters Musica Transonic. The record showcases the work of special guests Minh Nguyen and father Chris Nielson - who also appeared on horns at UMO's recent Auckland Town Hall show. The album is absolutely ideal for vibing out to this summer, you can catch the band touring Aotearoa in January alongside festival favourites Fat Freddy's Drop.
