Neko Case Unveils Puppet Video 'Last Lion Of Albion'

Friday 2nd November, 2018 12:32PM

US folk-rocker Neko Case (The New Pornographers) has shared a meticulously crafted puppet video for ‘Last Lion of Albion’ drawn from her debut solo album Hell-On, which dropped in June.  The clip follows a lonely lion floating down a stream through colourful jungle and encountering other adorable creatures, while a spaceship also makes a brief appearance. The figures and props were handmade by one of Case’s favourite artists, LA director and animator Laura Plansker. Case's stage show is heading our way for Auckland Arts Festival 2019 this March, and reportedly features “glowing, life-size wasp nests and Case as the wasp queen." She shared her admiration for the creator of her latest clip in a statement...

“I’ve loved her work forever; she’s so skilled at using handmade figures and props to create surreal worlds. Her work perfectly balances humor and darkness in a way that breaks my heart. She has a way of making something so artificial so very alive. The turning of the lion’s head to look at the sky, or its own reflection makes me cry my eyes out. There is so much straight ahead compassion in Laura’s work, there’s no need to manipulate emotion of the viewer, it is the perfect balance.”

Neko Case is playing at the Spiegeltent in Aotea Square on Monday 18th March as part of Auckland Arts Festival 2019.
