Roidz Return With Three Song Video 'Fight Night'

Monday 4th February, 2019 10:44AM

Auckland brat-pop crew ROIDZ have returned after two years of downtime with a triumphant three song visual odyssey directed by David Becham (the mastermind behind Goodwin & Kyle's dance-tastic 'Downtown Club'), in the lead up to their new album Fight Night. Sharing its name with the upcoming record, the carefully crafted clip features catchy fresh tunes ‘It’s So Easy’, ‘Potluck’ and ‘T.K.O’, and tells a Rocky-eque classic tale of a beloved protagonist climbing back to the top of his game, with a little motivation from his surly British manager and a spiritual guru. An otherworldly added layer to the video is its disjunctive overdubbed dialogue, ROIDZ head-honcho Daniel Smith shared some words on the clip’s dreamlike qualities...

"We took inspiration for the film from sources as varied as Jodorowsky's 'The Holy Mountain' and Elijah Wood's 'Green Street Hooligans'. We filmed the entire thing in a whirlwind 24 hour period which gives it a kind of frantic unhinged tone. We over-dubbed the speaking parts because it was much easier than recording audio. But it ended up taking on a surreal quality, as if the video comes from an 80s New Zealand that never existed.

We wanted the video to represent both the hilarity and the seriousness of trying to make a music comeback in New Zealand."

‘Fight Night’ the album is out Friday 22nd February via Danger Collective Records.
