Mac DeMarco Shares Single 'All Of Our Yesterdays'

Wednesday 3rd April, 2019 10:49AM

Canadian indie figurehead Mac DeMarco has shared ‘All Of Our Yesterdays’, the second single from his hotly anticipated fourth full length Here Comes The Cowboy. DeMarco mentioned to Stereogum that the tune was penned after he “had just seen a documentary about Oasis… I was trying to write a gigantic rock and roll hit with my renewed love for this band” and the Gallagher brothers’ influence can be plainly heard in the tune’s laid back, sauntering pace and relaxed, clean strums of harmonic guitar chords. Interestingly DeMarco mentioned that the line “all of our yesterdays” was lifted from ominous theatre staple Macbeth - a stark contrast to the easy-breezy, carefree images conjured by the tune.

Here Comes The Cowboy is DeMarco’s first release since 2017’s This Old Dog and sent ripples through Twitter upon being announced, for the title's similarity to Mitski’s 2018 opus Be The Cowboy (compounded by the fact that Here Comes The Cowboy’s first single was also called ‘Nobody’). Mitski herself seemed unphased, Tweeting that the two “just went fishing in the same part of the collective unconscious!”.

Here Comes The Cowboy is out Friday 10th of May via Mac’s Record Label.
