SJD Shares New Collection 'Miniatures 1'
Auckland singer and producer Sean James Donnelly aka SJD has delivered a concentrated dose of his short-form and low-key Miniatures project with Miniatures 1, collecting together seventeen "short songs for even shorter attention spans," individually released online from last November onwards. Miniatures 1 showcases a fractal-like suite of sonically diverse works crammed into twenty minutes, from the mind-melting psychedelia of 'lava lamp' to the shimmering introspective electronic pop of 'no one', all tied together by Donnelly's distinctive soulful croon and taste for adventure. When he originally announced Miniatures in late 2018, Donnelly stated the project drew inspiration from US avant-pop group The Residents' The Commercial Album, a collection of one minute songs, and that his songwriting process was "almost as easy as falling off a log." As the title implies, the artist promises a Miniatures 2 collection is indeed on the cards – roll that tantalising idea around your mind while you enjoy a stream of Miniatures 1 here...
'Miniatures 1' is out now via Universal Music New Zealand.
