Eyeliner Remixes Equip's 'Shadow Dancer'

C.C. / Monday 29th July, 2019 1:50PM

Pōneke electronic artist Eyeliner (Luke Rowell aka Disasteradio) has lifted the lid on a evocative reimagining of 'Shadow Dancer', the groove-driven latest single from Chicago vaporwave producer Equip. Eyeliner transmogrifies Equip's original with sassy sax and alternately sunny and suspenseful synths, building a bridge somewhere between the sonic fantasia of Italo icon Valerie Dore's 1986 classic The Legend and the gritty streetwise vibes of Harold Faltermeyer's soundtrack for mid-80s Chevy Chase vehicle Fletch. Both versions come accompanied by more remixes of 'Shadow Dancer' by fellow vaporwave legends Saint Pepsi and Esprit, and a limited edition 7" of the single featuring special vinyl-exclusive tracks is currently flying out the door via 100% Electronica.

It seems like the multi-talented Aotearoa artist never stops working – Rowell was a background animator on Coco Solid's must-see new cartoon show Aroha Bridge (you can watch the whole series here), and recently performed in a Paul Shaffer-eque role alongside comedian Tim Batt in Space Couch at the NZ International Comedy Festival 2019. Equip's 'Shadow Dancer' is out now digitally and on limited edition 7" vinyl via 100% Electronica.
