Stink Magnetic Records Unleash Three Collections + 'Decapulator'

Stink Magnetic Records Unleash Three Collections + 'Decapulator'

C.C. / Thursday 5th September, 2019 12:20PM

Stink Magnetic Records emerged like a swamp monster from the depths of Palmerston North's underground music scene all the way back in 1998, and continues to let its independent freak flag fly with this week's surprise drop of three killer compilations, named South Pacific Surf Trash, Stink Times At Castle Magnetula and Twelve & A Half Country Greats. Each themed collection shines a spotlight on different facets of Stink Magnetic's musical crystal – presenting new material alongside crucial tunes from throughout the Aotearoa imprint's vast catalogue. As the titles suggest, South Pacific Surf Trash delivers an overdose of fuzzed-out wave-riding good times, Twelve & A Half Country Greats straps on a cowboy hat for a soulful saunter through tenderhearted territory, and Stink Times At Castle Magnetula busts out a fast and furious soundtrack for ghoulish ragers.

There's too much local good stuff here for one mind to fully comprehend – featured artists include Cortina, Boss Christ, Bad Evil, Bloodbags, Delaney Davidson, I Drink Your Blood, Pro-Drag, The Chandeliers and hirsute guitar heroes Tape Wolves, who are gearing up to bring the party to Tokyo, Japan this Halloween. While all three compilations are free to download, the label encourages listeners to donate some coin towards the Tape Wolves' forthcoming overseas travels. On top of all that, a stylish limited edition device has been unveiled named the Decapulator, the creation of Tape Wolves bass player Nerd Wolf, described as "half tape half wolf half bottle opener". We caught up with official Stink Magnetic Records janitor and spokesperson D. Thomas Herkes, who gave us the inside scoop on the formerly analogue-only imprint's latest releases...

“We made these comps zero charge so you can finally get a clue even if you don’t have a Walkman or a turntable. We’re taking the Tape Wolves to Tokyo for Halloween so please feel free to share and even better. Donate! Help us get to the 64th Anniversary of Godzilla, King of Monsters so we can harness the correct energies required to take the next step for humankind.”
