Phoebe Bridgers Shares Single 'I See You' + Lyric Video

C.C. / Wednesday 20th May, 2020 10:55AM

While we're crossing our fingers that Phoebe Bridgers will still make it to our shores supporting The National in late 2020, as international travel to Aotearoa has ground to a halt, the incandescent California songwriter has revealed the latest single from her forthcoming sophomore album Punisher, for which the words "highly anticipated" barely do justice. Accompanied by a shadow puppet lyric video directed by Lachlan Turczan and Enna Ikuta, the soaring 'I See You' has an intensely personal heart, drawing inspiration from the artist's long-term relationship with drummer Marshall Vore, as Bridgers explained...

"It’s about my breakup with my drummer... We dated for a few years, made music every day, and were extremely codependent. We became like family to each other, so our breakup was extremely tough. But if this tells you anything about our relationship, we wrote this song together, just like everything else.”

'Punisher' is out on Friday 19th June via Dead Oceans.
