Watch Threat.Meet.Protocol's Dizzying Video For 'Why'

Watch Threat.Meet.Protocol's Dizzying Video For 'Why'

Chris Cudby / Tuesday 19th January, 2021 11:41AM

Tauranga's Threat.Meet.Protocol have dropped a head-spinning action-packed vid directed by Evan Pope (Studio 11B), for my personal fave tune from their spooky three song The Witch Trials 7" EP 'Why', which launched just before Halloween back in October 2020. Apparently things went pretty good for the TMP post-release of The Witch Trials, before it all suddenly went pear-shaped in a classic tale of rock 'n' roll depravity. Don't miss them tearing it up at No Future Fest in late February (details below), cast your eyeballs on the brain-blasting new clip for 'Why' and scroll further downwards to read TMP's first-hand account of what really went down...

"After a big 2020 with the release of the ‘Witch Trials’ 7”/video and subsequent NZ tour Threat.Meet.Protocol were everywhere. The toast of the town and the talk of the industry, hopes were high and belief strong that this was a band that would soon be spoken alongside the names Six60, Benee or LAB, such was their resonance with the NZ general public. With their highly accessible super commercial good time party sounds it was surely only a matter of time before Threat.Meet.Protocol would be selling out and headlining arena shows, taking the number 1 slot across the charts and having their music featured in adverts for everything from Coke to Wonder Mops.

But it all went horribly wrong… succumbing to the pressures of fame The Meet Protocols developed addictions that rapidly unraveled all their hard work. Unwilling to work with each other and no one willing to work with their massive egos TMP were left to waste away on the pile of ‘nearly were’ rockstar trash. Now clean, motivated and egos moderately in check they are back with 2021 a new year and a new start.

However while it is a new start in many respects they are still creatively bereft so let us present to you the b-side from the ‘Witch Trials’ 7” - ‘Why’. Engineered and mixed by Evan Pope at Studio 11B it should probably have actually been released as the A side as it sounds more like a single than that weird Mr Bungle rip off they did use. Accompanied by a video also recorded at Studio 11b with a budget of $17 and also directed by Evan Pope it surely is Threat.Meet.Protocols ticket back in to the hearts and minds of the NZ public."
