Kaishandao Drops Debut EP 'Homeland'

Kaishandao Drops Debut EP 'Homeland'

Chris Cudby / Monday 24th May, 2021 4:05PM

An "exploration through the places, spaces, and people we call home", Homeland is the debut collection from Pōneke-born, Chengdu-based electronic artist Kaishandao aka Kristen Ng, driving force behind music site / tour facilitators Kiwese. Showcasing six tracks initially laid down during domestic jam sessions, then refined in post-lockdown live settings, Homeland invites listeners to explore and move their bodies to Kaishandao's deeply considered rhythmic sound world. Sample snippets from sources including Ashanti, Destiny’s Child and Mariah Carey provide memory-tugging moments of familiarity, recast within a flotsam of more abstract post-club sound-shapes. Described by the artist as "Foraged sounds and temporal collisions. A therapy cassette sent through a drum machine...", there is indeed a feeling of time moving in whole new directions in relation to personal space on Homeland — check out Kaishandao's Homeland tour dates (none in Aotearoa yet) and listen below...

'Homeland' is out now via major streaming services.
