The Fuzzy Robes Unveil Debut Album 'Night Prayers'

Chris Cudby / Friday 11th June, 2021 9:38AM

Unknown to all but a chosen few merely three weeks ago, Ōtautahi's The Fuzzy Robes have indoctrinated our hearts with the heavenly sounds of singles 'Kyrie Eleison' and 'Psalm 25', and now their entire debut album is out in the world for all to behold. Entitled Night Prayers, the eight track opus was recorded "in secret over ten fevered wintry days and nights in remote chapels around the South Island," during which the collective were tasked with "creating a musical setting for excerpts from A New Zealand Prayer Book, He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa." They certainly nailed the brief and more, sounding not unlike an unearthed Antipodean Arf! Arf! compilation of heavy psych colliding with the celestial dreaminess of French duo Air, surely a shoe-in for the Worship Award at this year's AMA's. Night Prayers goes to show that faith in The Fuzzy Robes is indeed richly rewarded — we're keeping fingers crossed for a live appearance in the near future...

'Night Prayers' is out now digitally and on vinyl LP.
