Smokestack Slim Shares New EP 'Variations From F To U'

Annabel Kean / Wednesday 6th October, 2021 11:42AM

For the smooth taste of Aotearoa Americana and steel guitar this morning look no further than Smokestack Slim's twangy new EP Variations From F To U. While locked down in Tāmaki Makaurau, band frontman Dillon Feeney (Dirty Pixels) has made hay of the slower pace of life, putting to work the few instruments and recording gear he has around the house and laying down four seriously mellow, sweltering guitar tracks. On Variation From F To U Feeney describes himself as a "poor man's Ry Cooder", a la Paris, Texas, hoping to conjure up visions of vast deserts and lone highways with his folk pluckings, adorned with piano, shaker and hazy harmonica. Sent south for mixing and mastering by De Stevens (Marlin's Dreaming), let Smokestack Slim ease you into the humid days of spring on Variation From F To U...
