The reo Māori project of Theia (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Tīpa), the excellence of TE KAAHU's debut album Te Kaahu O Rangi has been recognised with finalist nominations for the Waiata Māori Music Awards (Best Te Reo Māori Album), the APRA Maioha Award (for her single ‘E Hine Ē’) and this year's inaugural Rolling Stone Awards (Best New Artist), along with an invitation to perform at Brisbane's Big Sound festival. Named in tribute to Theia's tūpuna wāhine (female ancestors) and notably her grandmother, the moving and uplifting long player features nine waiata delivering "messages of love, peace, healing, and hope".

Press release:

It’s been a big year for TE KAAHU, which is the brainchild of Ōtautahi-born singer and songwriter Theia (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Tīpa). The debut album TE KAAHU O RANGI was released in May to critical acclaim, earning nominations in the inaugural Rolling Stone Awards for ‘Best New Artist’; and Waiata Māori Music Awards for ‘Best Te Reo Māori Album’. The waiata ‘E Hine Ē’ is also a Top 5 finalist in the APRA Maioha Award.

The album has also resonated with audiences outside of Aotearoa with TE KAAHU one of only six NZ acts invited to play at this year’s Big Sound in Brisbane. TE KAAHU has a growing audience in Australia, Japan, the USA and Canada, where album recently hit #1 in the Top 30 album charts on Alberta’s CKUA Radio Network.

The upcoming Raglan and Ōtaki shows promise an unforgettable and immersive experience. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the magic of TE KAAHU live.

Opening for TE KAAHU in Raglan on Saturday October 8 is Komako-Aroha. For the Māorilands show on Saturday November 12, TE KAAHU is joined by Mo Etc.

Mo Etc. is a Te-Whanganui-a-Tara-based artist and producer. Their latest album OCEANBED is a sonic journey through love, loss and self-discovery.
