Beastwars Cover 'Identity' by The Gordons

Ram-raiding the Billboard Compilation Albums chart with their contribution to new Soundgarden covers compilation Superunknown (Redux), Pōneke metal masters Beastwars are rapidly making the second half of 2023 their own. Named after a line from Split Enz's 'Six Months In A Leaky Boat', Beastwars' imminent fifth studio album Tyranny Of Distance was in fact prompted by their scorching rendition of 'The Day I Tried to Live' (listen below) — putting their own mega-heavy spin on songs by Aotearoa music icons The Gordons, Superette, Snapper, Children's Hour, Nadia Reid, Julia Deans, The 3Ds and Marlon Williams.

Embarking on a seven date nationwide release tour this spring, Beastwars today unveil the second single from their new record 'Identity'. A cover of a deep cut classic by noise rock legends The Gordons (who later reconfigured as Bailterspace), 'Identity' comes from their long out of print 1984 second album, and will thus be new to the ears of many fans today (there's a handy YouTube rip available HERE). Beastwars' version bulks up the sleek, almost Chrome-like original, amplifying the song's dystopian technological vision to awe-inspiring levels for our AI-spooked present.
