D.C. Maxwell Shares Debut Album 'Lone Rider'

The songwriting project of Tāmaki Makaurau's Daniel Smith (ROIDZ), D.C. Maxwell finally sets free his debut solo album Lone Rider via US imprint Danger Collective, with a ten-track voyage across vast lands of love and loss. Echoing the '70s Americana chops of Lee Hazlewood, Towns Van Zandt and John Prine, Maxwell rides through scapes of roadside motels and small towns in his masterful and empathetic lyricism, ranging from themes of self-destruction to pleasure. Proudly repping his self-proclaimed brand of "weirdo country-rock", the album's distinguished cast includes Dave Khan (Reb Fountain) on violin, Elizabeth Stokes (The Beths) on trumpet, Hariet Ellis (Na Noise, Dick Move) on bass / backing vocals, saxophonist J.Y Lee (Avantdale Bowling Club) and the multi-instrumental expertise of co-producer Peter Ruddell (Wax Chattels, Sulfate). Notably, the grand orchestral section brings forth a timeless grace amongst the painful trek of its characters felt through Lone Rider’s acoustic backbone.

The ex-punk preacher man will bolt out the gates for a free performance at his hometown’s Flying Out store this Saturday in celebration of his debut long player, before hitching his horse alongside acts Bleeding Star and Welcomer at Pōneke’s San Fran, and string section with his all-star band at St-Mary’s-in-Holy Trinity.
