New year, new Dateline! Revealing last month the official Dateline 3.0 membership of songwriter Katie Everingham with Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa, Phoebe Johnson and Reuben McDonald, they're treating our Tuesday to 'Choose Me', the ever-evolving combo's first release since 2022's debut album Dumb For My Age. Originating from a "demo session with The Beths' Liz Stokes and Jonathan Pearce, along with Phoebe Rings' bassist Ben Locke and multi-instrumentalist Sean Martin-Buss," 'Choose Me' captures yearning emotions like lightning in a bottle, as ineffably catchy fuzz-pop hooks dig in deep. Recorded live by Pearce at Vogelmorn Hal, the song's creation was filmed by Cameron Cook, a beautifully shot document befitting the anthem's seemingly insta-classic aura (it's already stuck firmly in my head).

We've already spotted Dateline's stylish new merch line being rocked out in the wild by none other than 95bFM's General Manager / fashion trailblazer Tom Tremewan. Caps and tees are currently sold out over on Bandcamp, pray for a restock when the group embark on their five date 'Choose Me' release tour, starting March 15th. Catch them this Friday at Vogelmorn Bowling Club, warming up for the tour in support of Phoebe Rings...

"I had been sending Jonathan some offensively lo-fi acoustic demos from Hastings. Jonathan put together a kind of last minute band to play the songs for us to record. If I remember correctly, I played drums, Jon was on rhythm guitar, Liz added percussion, Ben Locke played the bass and Sean Martin-Buss played lead guitar. Sean had barely heard the songs but just turned up and started playing along and noodling and we happened to record the solo that you hear after the first chorus. I really really loved it so when I put the new band together I really wanted to keep it as close to Sean's version as possible.

Choose Me was written from the perspective of a younger Katie! It’s just a bit of a reflection of an experience I was having when I was in my mid 20s. I now look at the track as a kind of capsule of my younger self." — Katie Everingham
