Spotlight: The Dandy Warhols Returning To New Zealand In April

Spotlight: The Dandy Warhols Returning To New Zealand In April

Chris Cudby / Wednesday 3rd April, 2024 12:19PM

First catching local ears and eyes with their Max TV era alt-rock hits 'Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth' and 'Ride', before soaring into the stratosphere with 2000's breakout album Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia, Portland's The Dandy Warhols will soon be touching back down in Aotearoa. Headlining Tāmaki Makaurau's The Powerstation on 22nd April, the superstar team of Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Peter Holmström, Zia McCabe and Brent DeBoer have released a slew of tunes since their previous visit to our shores in 2017 (documented by photographer Dave Simpson HERE) — launching their twelfth studio album Rockmaker just last month, the three and a half hour feast-themed "table music" epic Tafelmuzik Means More When You’re Alone in 2020, and sonically freewheeling 25th anniversary long player Why You So Crazy in 2019.

Featuring guest contributions from straight up legends Frank Black, Slash and Debbie Harry, Rockmaker treats fans to such suitably rowdy anthems as 'Danzig With Myself', 'I'd Like To Help You With Your Problem' and 'The Summer of Hate' — the latter namechecked by Brooklyn Vegan as “a homage to the sounds of The Damned, The MC5, and The Stooges”. Brought to you by SBM Presents, come worship at the alter of The Dandy Warhols this autumn at The Powerstation as part of their Australasian album release tour, tickets are running low so you better not muck about...

Press release:

Renowned for their epic live performances, both sonically and visually, The Dandy Warhols will return once again to Australia and New Zealand in April 2024!

Australia hosts one of bands largest and most devoted fan bases in the world, a relationship built upon since their inaugural tour back in 1998.

With over a quarter of a billion streams across 10 studio albums, six EPs, and 27 singles to date, The Dandy Warhols are one of the most fundamental and influential rock acts of the 21st century.

Melding psych-rock, power pop, and synth pop with a satirical, pop-art sensibility, The Dandy Warhols are as unique as they are pioneering.

With a string of hits ingrained in pop culture including; "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth”, "Bohemian Like You”, “We Used To Be Friends” and more, they ruled the last years of the 90’s and were often cited as America’s answer to Brit Pop. And their witty critique of hipster culture is still as relevant as ever!

One of the hardest working bands on the live circuit, The Dandy’s have played virtually non stop throughout their career and have graced the stage at some of the worlds biggest festivals including Glastonbury (UK) Rock Am Ring (Germany) Mallorca (Spain), Levitation (France) and Meltdown Festival in the UK where they were personally selected by none other than David Bowie. They’s also appeared at the biggest and best in Australia, including Scene & Heard, Wanderer, Splendour In the Grass and many more.
