Video Collection: Laneway Festival 2013 First Announcement

Wednesday 26th September, 2012 10:01AM

The initial line-up for St. Jerome's Laneway Festival for 2013 was announced this morning, and we've compiled our favourite videos from each of the artists who will be playing the festival, at Silo Park, on Monday 28th January.

Bat for Lashes A.K.A Natasha Khan is an indie pop artist who has just released her third studio album, The Haunted Man. She’s released two singles from the album so far, and you can listen to ‘Laura’ over here and check out the video for older track – and one of our favourites – ‘What’s a Girl To Do’, below.

Seminal New Zealand post rock band Bailterspace return for Laneway this year. Have a listen to their latest single ‘No Sense’ over here and check out one of our favourite tracks from the band, ‘Splat’, below.

After releasing their brilliant debut, All Hour Cymbals in 2007, Yeasayer crossed over with a bunch of epic pop singles on their 2010 sophomore album Odd Blood, including ‘O.N.E’, which you can watch the video for below. They’ve just released a more experimental follow-up, called Fragrant World, and you can have a listen to the first single ‘Henrietta’ – apparently about the pharmaceutical industry – over here. Check out our recent interview with Chris Keating here, too.

Divine Fits
are the new ‘supergroup’ comprising Britt Daniel of Spoon and Dan Boeckner, formerly of Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs. Their debut album, A Thing Called Divine Fits, sounds pretty much exactly like you would imagine a collab from these two musicians to sound like, and you can listen to debut single ‘My Love Is Real' over here. Check out the video for one of our favourite Wolf Parade tracks, ‘Yulia’ from their latest (and last) album Expo 86, below.

Of Monsters and Men
released debut album My Head is an Animal earlier this year and have garnered a following for their upbeat, Scandinavian pop. Check out the cinematic video for single ‘Little Talks’ below.

British indie band Alt-J released their debut album An Awesome Wave earlier this year and courted controversy for the use of a triangle (made on an Apple keyboard by Alt-J) as their moniker. Check out the interesting video for lead single ‘Tessellate’ below.

After releasing a huge portfolio of EPs American-Chilean musician Nicolas Jaar dropped debut full length album, Space is the Only Noise, at the start of 2011. Check out the video for single ‘Mi Mujer’ below.

Kiwi summer festival stalwarts The Phoenix Foundation are returning to Laneway Festival in 2013. Reminisce with the Taika Waititi-directed clip for excellent single '40 Years’, below.

After winning the prestigious Taite Music Prize for his 2009 album Chant Darling, Lawrence Arabia returned this year with third studio album The Sparrow. Head over here to read our interview with him about the album, here to check out the single ‘Travelling Shoes’ and check out one of our favourite video clips from Lawrence Arabia – for ‘Auckland CBD’ – below.

English singer-songwriter Jessie Ware released her debut album, Devotion, earlier this year and you can check out the conceptual video for ‘Night Light’ from the album, below.

New Zealand atmospheric pop artist Phelps and Munro returns to playing live for Laneway Festival after a lengthy hiatus. You can stream his excellent debut album – Slowpoke - in its entirety over on his Bandcamp, and check out the video for track ‘Glib’ below.

Japandroids
released their excellent debut album, Post Nothing, back in 2009 followed that up with two more albums, including 2012’s Celebration Rock. The band are known for their formidable live performances and you can check out the video for ‘House that Heaven Built’, that is essentially a conglomeration of live and tour footage, below.

Heading up the local talent is Street Chant who released double A-side ‘Salad Daze’ and ‘Frail Girls’ earlier this year. Have a listen to both singles over here and check out the video for ‘Salad Daze’ below.

The Men
are a punk rock band from Brooklyn who have released three studio albums, the latest being this year’s Open Your Heart. Have a listen to the title track from that album below and head over to their website for more information.

Cloud Nothings
released their third album, Attack on Memory, earlier this year on Carpark Records. From Ohio, the band are known for their melancholic, atmosphere indie rock and you can check out the video for ‘No Future / No Past’ below.

Auckland band Deer Park released their album Walk Into The Sea back at the end of 2010. You can stream the album in its entirety over on their Bandcamp, and head over to their website for more information.

Beach Pigs
released their debut EP late last year and have since been playing live any chance they get, perfecting their energetic live show. Check out the video for excellent single ‘No Work’, below.
