Paul McCartney to Front Nirvana For Benefit Concert

Paul McCartney to Front Nirvana For Benefit Concert

Thursday 13th December, 2012 10:00AM

In 'I can't believe this is happening news' Paul McCartney is rumoured to perform alongside surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, for a Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in New York today (in the States), 12.12.12. It is unclear what they will perform exactly but if it is Nirvana material it will be the first such reunion for Novoselic and Grohl who have not performed Nirvana live since the death of Kurt Cobain almost 20 years ago.

According to The Guardian the union occurred when Grohl invited McCartney to "jam with some mates" recently. To make matters weirder / worse, McCartney initially didn't know what band Novoselic and Grohl were from: "I didn't really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said, 'Whoah? You guys haven't played together for all that time? Somebody whispered to me 'That's Nirvana. You're Kurt'. I couldn't believe it".

Spokespeople for the artists have neither confirmed nor denied the rumours, according to Spin, but all will be revealed in a few hours -  we'll post any video evidence as soon as it comes to pass.

UPDATE: Here it is, the performance by Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear - they played new, appropriately titled, track 'Cut Me Some Slack':
