Album Stream: Surf City - Kudos (Music Month Special)

Monday 29th April, 2013 12:05PM

We recently acquired a copy of Surf City's debut album Kudos on vinyl and listening anew nearly three years after it's release, we were reminded all over again what an amazing record it is. With the avalanche of new releases out each year it is so easy to lose track of music and our rediscovery of Kudos has inspired us to think about other great local releases lost in time and to share the experience of rediscovery, and straight up discovery no doubt, in the name of New Zealand music month. So starting today, we will be streaming a great New Zealand album each week till the end of the month and given Kudos was our inspiration it only makes sense we kick start the feature with this album.

Quick facts: Kudos is the debut album from Surf City, released in September 2010 on Arch Hill Recordings in New Zealand and at the start of 2011 in the US and UK via Fire Records.  Surf City first emerged out of Auckland in 2004 as Kill Surf City, a reference to a Jesus and Mary Chain b-side, but the name was already in use by bands in the US and UK.   Surf City have been on hiatus for the past year and a bit but have just announced the release of a new album this year.

Sorry this preview has expired.
