Album Stream: Xanadu - Xanadu (Music Month Special)

Album Stream: Xanadu - Xanadu (Music Month Special)

Monday 27th May, 2013 2:15PM

Rounding off our music month special feature on great New Zealand albums that are under-appreciated and/or not readily available online, we have the A Low Hum release of beloved Auckland trio Xanadu.

A live favourite, Xanadu formed in 2000 by Tim 'Teen' Lewton who remained at the helm of the project though other members changed through it's four or so year lifespan. In early 2005, original drummer Bruce Wurr gave A Low Hum's Ian Jorgensen (Blink) a CD-R of unreleased Xanadu material which not only inspired Jorgensen to put together a release from the recordings but also a whole new A Low Hum series that echoes the sentiment of this feature...

"Listening to it over the break from the first year (2004) tours of A Low Hum I became quite obsessed with the songs and it was the catalyst for the concept of series three of A Low Hum where each month as well as the compilation and magazine, I would also release or re-release an over-looked/forgotten NZ record. Having this album be the first of the series, as the inspiration, was very important and I was really proud to introduce so many people to these recordings." - Ian Jorgensen/Blink

The album was released in 2006 and while not a traditional album - combining live recordings, demos and studio recordings -  it is a great document of an awesome band that spawned some real classics...

THIS PREVIEW HAS EXPIRED.

Expect to be able to track down a copy of this album from the new A Low Hum site when it's back up and running.
