ODDISEE (MELLO MUSIC GROUP/US) – RED BULL PRODIGY + TWO NZ SHOWS

This October, Oddisee (Mellow Music Group/US) returns to New Zealand for The Red Bull Prodigy Project, and two exclusive shows with Madcap Touring.

Established to nurture and develop the New Zealand music industry, The Red Bull Prodigy Project sees an emerging artist mentored by an established artist, leading to new collaborative recordings. Between the 21st of October and the 1st of November, Oddisee will write and record with hotly tipped Wellington contemporary soul artist Estere at Red Bull Studios in Auckland.

During this residency, Oddisee will duck out to perform live at Cassette Nine in Auckland on Friday the 25th of October and the San Francisco Bath House in Wellington on Saturday the 26th October. Having recently released a new instrumental album 'The Beauty In All' and a fresh mixtape 'Tangible Dream', his crucial skills as a rapper/producer will be on display both nights.

Raised by Sudanese and American parents between Washington DC and Khartoum, Oddisee's upbringing was a culture clash. Winters in America where he came to love classic New York hip-hop, gospel and Go-Go Music. Summers in Sudan where he learned Arabic and swam in the Nile.

Taking his first steps as a beatmaker and a rapper in the basement of a neighbour who played in George Clinton's Parliament Funkadelic, in the years since Oddisee has performed with The Roots, produced for Freeway, Jazzy Jeff, Little Brother, De La Soul & Nikki Jean, and rapped on beats from Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Kev Brown. Along the way he formed the trio Diamond District. Resolutely independent, since signing with Mellow Music Group, Oddisee has built a globally trusted brand through his evocative live performances and recordings.

This October, Oddisee will collaborate with Estere, and share his jazz, gospel and go-go informed hip-hop on stages. Expect classics and future anthems. Songs for now, and songs for later on. On both dates, he will be supported by equally thoughtful Hamilton/Auckland based Rwandan rapper Raiza Biza.
