Press Release:

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE & NINE INCH NAILS ANNOUNCE DOUBLE HEADLINE TOUR

The Frontier Touring Company are thrilled to announce that two of the world’s most influential bands of the last decade, Nine Inch Nails and Queens Of The Stone Age, will join forces for a massive double headline tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014!

In what could arguably be described as one of the biggest double bills to ever reach our shores, QOTSA and NIN, joined by special guest Brody Dalle, will kick off this explosive tour at Sydney Entertainment Centre on Thursday March 6th 2014 and continue on around the country visiting Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland and Christchurch.

With the first headline band on stage being decided each night by the toss of a coin, fans will want to make sure they’re at the ready for a big night from the minute doors open.

Queens Of The Stone Age are no strangers to New Zealand shores having performed here with Smashing Pumpkins at Vector Arena in 2008 and then again at Auckland’s Logan Campbell Centre in 2011. Unfortunately that tour was tragically cancelled mid tour after the occurrence of the Christchurch Earthquake. It was important to the band that a Christchurch concert be included in the upcoming 2014 tour.

QOTSA are possibly the single most critically acclaimed hard rock band of the 2000s. The band first emerged from its desert environs with its 1998 self-titled debut then ascended the international major leagues with 2000's Rated R. QOTSA popularity was cemented in 2002 with the Grammy-nominated album Songs For The Deaf, featuring some of their best known songs - ‘No One Knows’, ‘Go With The Flow’ and ‘Feel Good Hit Of The Summer’.

Further commercial success ensued with 2005’s Lullabies to Paralyze and 2007's Era Vulgaris, but it was with QOTSA album number six, this year's Like Clockwork, that Homme and the current iteration of the Queens – veteran Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore - would come out bigger and better than ever.

Produced by the band at Homme’s Pink Duck studio in Burbank California, Like Clockwork (featuring Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, as well as Dave Grohl, Elton John and a host of others) ended the longest ever gap between Queens albums with the band's first ever #1 album in the U.S., with a first week tally nearly doubling that of Era Vulgaris – not to mention the most fawning critical notices of the band's 17 year career, including:

‘… a heft not heard since 2002¹s breakthrough Songs For The Deaf, but the main event is always Homme’s bombastic riffage and desert-blasted end-of-the-world croon’ – Entertainment Weekly

‘A mini epic that shows they¹re much more than just headbangers… they bring to mind David Bowie for a new age’ – People ★★★★

‘An exquisitely grizzled good time’ - Rolling Stone

‘…a genuine revival, reminding us why we were compelled to bow down in front of Homme¹s Queens in the first place.’ – Sound + Vision

‘A heady, sinister brew of emotional pull and darkly beautiful melodies’ – USA Today

‘Some bands are better than others. Chord by chord, line by line, beat by beat, hook by glorious hook, none is as convincing in 2013 as the Queens of the Stone Age.’ ¬– The Los Angeles Times

‘Gorgeously perverse as ever.’4.5/5 stars – Sunday Star Times

‘Well worth the wait.’ 5/5 stars – The New Zealand Herald

Like Clockwork also debuted at #1 in Australia--and #1 in Ireland and Portgual, #2 in the UK, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland and New Zealand, #3 in Holland and Austria, #4 in Denmark and top 10 in Germany, France, and Spain. Critics here were also quick to stamp their approval, with a 9 out of 10 rating from triple j magazine, 4.5 star reviews from The Age and Sydney Morning Herald and Triple M Melbourne¹s Dave Williams declaring ³We have just found the Rock Record of the year!²

Nine Inch Nails are considered a pioneer in the industrial music movement and have been highly influential in the evolution of electronic music. Their recordings – which include the US Platinum-certified Pretty Hate Machine (1989), Broken (1992), The Downward Spiral (1994) and With Teeth (2005) – have revolutionised detailed digital production. The band have sold more than thirty million albums worldwide, released a remarkable collection of singles and received two Grammy awards.

Their latest studio album Hesitation Marks (watch the clip for single ‘Came Back Haunted’ here), marks the first new music from Nine Inch Nails in five years and was recorded with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder, whom Trent Reznor worked with on the scored soundtracks for films The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, winning an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Grammy Award in the process.

“For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!” - Trent Reznor

This album was the band’s fifth top 5 album in the United States and debuted at #4 on the ARIA Album Chart.

“Hesitation Marks is an immediate reason to light the black candles. Reznor's first NIN album in five years, it is one of his best.” – Rolling Stone ★★★★

Already with a reputation as one of rock’s greatest live bands and renowned for their multimedia live spectacles and elaborate stage productions, we couldn’t be more excited to see where Nine Inch Nails take their live show in 2014. To see why the band are ranked amongst the best for their live show, watch the teaser for their Festival Tour here.

If that’s not enough to get your head around, Queens Of The Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails will also bring very special guest, Australian-born singer/songwriter/musician Brody Dalle along for the ride! Dalle will open the shows with a full band, playing a selection of songs from her extensive catalogue from her renowned punk rock bands The Distillers and Spinnerette and new songs from her fierce forthcoming solo album.

The relationship between these two rock powerhouse bands is no secret; they’ve played over thirty shows together in the United States in 2005 and have teamed up for several recordings together over the years, including an appearance by Reznor on ‘Kalopsia’ from Queens Of The Stone Age’s Like Clockwork.

It’s evident these two bands share a musical affinity and are prodigies of the live show. Australia and New Zealand, you had better secure your tickets because this is going to be one mammoth, mind blowing, live event of the year that you definitely don’t want to miss!
