The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just announced their 2014 Oscar nominations, and the soundtrack for Her, which features work by Karen O, Arcade Fire's Win Butler and Owen Pallet, has done very well indeed. 'The Moon Song', written by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O (music) and Spike Jonze himself (lyrics) is up for Best Original Song, and Win Butler and Owen Pallett worked together on the score, and are therefore both nominated in the Best Original Score category. Other musical nominees include U2 for their Golden Globe-winning song for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and a bunch of kid's songs including 'Let It Go' from Frozen and Pharrell's 'Happy', from Despicable Me 2. The Academy Awards take place on February 3rd, 2014.

Karen O and Spike Jonze have collaborated before, on the excellent soundtrack to Jonze's 2009 adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are and Karen O made the shortlist for Best Original Score but didn't make the final cut.

Her is set in the near future and stars Joaquin Phoenix as a recently divorced, primarily colour-wearing introvert, who falls in love with his operating system, narrated by Scarlet Johansson. Check out the trailer for Her, below.
