Creative NZ Funds Agency To Assist Touring Artists

Creative NZ Funds Agency To Assist Touring Artists

Thursday 4th December, 2014 12:20PM

A new initiative being funded by Creative New Zealand is aiming to support and manage national touring of contemporary New Zealand theatre, dance and music. After calling for proposals earlier this year, Creative New Zealand selected the Performing Arts Network of New Zealand (PANNZ, also known as PromPT Incorporated) to implement a national touring agency, which is set to be in place by March 2015.

The agency will receive will a total of $760,000 to provide the touring services between December 2014 and June 2017. According to a press release, it will also be able to apply to an associated touring fund of up to $1.16 million for some of the costs of the tours it manages. It is also intended that the agency will generate fees for its services in some cases.

The initiative follows Creative NZ identifying barriers associated with touring for artists working in the fields of music and dance. "An effective mechanism to develop and manage touring of medium to large scale work is a missing link in our arts infrastructure," says CNZ spokesperson Cath Cardiff. "The agency and fund will play a vital role in ensuring more audiences enjoy great New Zealand performing art experiences."
