PRESS RELEASE:

OFF THE RADAR festival was born from the idea of creating a cross-cultural exchange between Hamburg and Auckland, and after a successful first edition in February 2014 Off The Radar will return on Waitangi weekend 2015 to take this international collaboration to the next level.

Drawing inspiration from Fusion Festival in Germany, OFF THE RADAR festival was established in early 2014 as a 3-day event, featuring an eclectic, diverse mix of musical styles as well as visual and kinetic art installations. Encouraged by the positive feedback received, the crew will once again converge on the same spectacular site one and a half hours north of Auckland to do it all again.

Like last year, a crew from New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland and Germany will work together to create a music and arts festival out of the ordinary, an independent event inspired by the idea of DIY and the concept of bringing artists and audience together at eye-level, outside of corporate restraints. Already artists and helpers are making their way to New Zealand to meet and collaborate with fellow campaigners and to prepare for the second edition of this exciting event.

It is not only the people returning to our shores to participate. Once again the infamous big black container will be landing on our shores having already departed Hamburg, filled to overflowing with sound systems, electronics and the tools to create more one-of-a-kind kinetic installations.

This festival is not only remote in the geographical sense; it is also far removed from the mainstream. This counts of course for the visual stimuli as well, a unique concept of stage lighting, kinetic and visual arts, and an artificial urban scene that captivates the beholder, leaving a long lasting afterglow. The optical concept for the second edition of the festival is the merging of urban street art in major western cities with the beautiful colours of natural New Zealand.

On site at the festival location, which has a capacity for 3000 guests, the musical line up will be spread across three stages and will comprise of indie, hip hop and electronics as well as blues, folk and punk. But these rigid categories of genre sometimes fail to describe the style of the artists who perform at a festival such as OFF THE RADAR.

First Line Up Announcement:
