PRESS RELEASE:

THIS WILL DESTROY YOU – AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND TOUR JUNE 2015

Presented by The Bird’s Robe Collective & Hobbledehoy Records

THIS WILL DESTROY YOU & SLEEPMAKESWAVES have announced their first ever tour of New Zealand for June 2015.

These two iconic post-rock powerhouses will co-headline shows in Auckland & Wellington, playing extensively from their entire catalogue.

Don’t miss this chance to see this rare double-bill create beautiful noise across New Zealand.

THIS WILL DESTROY YOU

Known for their destructive live sound and influential brand of ambient, melodic instrumental rock (dubbed ‘doom-gaze’ in recent times), the tour follows the release of their stunning record ‘Another Language’ through Australian independent label Hobbledehoy.

Formed in San Marcos, Texas, the band has enjoyed a meteoric rise since the release of their debut ‘Young Mountain’ in 2006. Since then they have earned critical plaudits and notched up worldwide sales over 100,000 copies for their catalogue, including 2008’s follow-up full length “S/T” and several EP’s (2009’s “Field Studies,” 2010’s “Moving on the Edges of Things” and “Communal Blood”).

The abyss of endless touring and isolation on the road became the catalyst for the band’s darker third album, “Tunnel Blanket”. After the release of a cathartic live album, recorded in Rekjavik, Iceland, the band bunkered down for the release of their fourth full length album, ‘Another Language.’ Featuring pulsating washes of sound blended with an undeniable beauty of composition, the record captures everything that is past and present for This Will Destroy You.

After several sell out shows on their maiden tour of Australia in 2013, This Will Destroy You captured the minds and hearts of a loyal following on this side of the world. They will return to premiere material from their new album in Australia & New Zealand in June 2015, including several massive shows in Auckland, Wellington, Sydney & Melbourne alongside Australian legends sleepmakeswaves.

SLEEPMAKESWAVES

Sydney’s sleepmakeswaves are in the midst of their biggest international tour to date – the ‘Great Northern’ tour celebrates the release of the band’s latest single and will see them play 55 shows in 22 countries from March until June. They will wrap up their epic run across the globe with shows across Australia and their first ever visit to New Zealand.

sleepmakeswaves have had an amazing run since the release of their debut album ‘…and so we destroyed everything’ in 2011. Over the past 4 years, their busy schedule has included 9 Australian tours, 4 European tours, touring the USA and playing SXSW, tours with 65daysofstatic & Karnivool – and 2 ARIA Award nominations.

Their second full-length album ‘Love of Cartography’ presents the band’s continued desire to map new creative directions, with a series of unforgettable and thundering sequences. Recorded in Byron Bay at Studio 301 with producer Nick DiDia (Karnivool, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Powderfinger, Rage Against the Machine), the album’s 10 tracks range from the epic bombast of ‘Perfect Detonator’ to the delicate and subtle electronic flourishes of ‘A Little Spark.’

The album’s single ‘Something Like Avalanches’ and ‘Great Northern’ are dramatic melodic epics that feature memorable hooks with a balance of electronic ambient and rock drive and have featured on triple j, community radio and US college radio.

The band’s reputation for electric and enthralling live shows has earned them a dedicated audience.
