Ruts DC Announce Three New Zealand Shows
London outfit Ruts DC are making their way to the Southern Hemisphere for their first ever tour downunder. The reggae-influenced punk group has a history stretching back to 1977 when they formed as The Ruts and were active in anti-racism causes. Following the death of lead singer Malcolm Owen in 1980, the group carried on as Ruts DC (as in, the Italian term da capo meaning 'from the beginning'), and released a couple of albums before splitting in 1983. Fast forward to 2011 when the group reformed, and today it boasts a line up of John ”Segs” Jennings, David Ruffy and Leigh Heggarty. The November tour will see the trio play songs from The Ruts' back catalogue including classics such as 'In A Rut' and 'Babylon’s Burning', alongside later Ruts DC material. Here are the details...

PRESS RELEASE:
RUTS DC
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND TOUR
NOVEMBER 2015
The Ruts were a UK reggae influenced punk rock band formed in 1977. In their short but remarkable career The Ruts quickly established themselves as one of the most innovative and exciting bands of the day and released six singles, including classics such as “In A Rut”, “Babylon’s Burning” and “Something that I said”. They released two full length albums, "The Crack" and "Grin and Bear it" to critical acclaim.
Following the untimely death of front man Malcolm Owen in 1980 the band carried on as Ruts DC but folded a few years later and only performing one more show in 2007 as a benefit for original member Paul Fox who was terminally ill with Cancer. U.S. punk hero Henry Rollins stood in on vocals (Rollins describes “The Crack “as “The best album ever made”) and this gig has rightly gone down as a memorable landmark in punk history.
Reforming in 2011 and touring extensively since 2012, Ruts DC continue to add the fluidity of reggae to the toughness of punk; the now legendary rhythm section of Segs and David Ruffy allowing Leigh Heggarty to excel on guitar as Segs handles lead vocal duties with panache and respect. They are widely considered to be one of the very best of the original UK punk bands still performing.
Ruts DC visit Australia and New Zealand for the first time in November 2015, performing the back catalogue of timeless Ruts songs and as well as later Ruts DC material. Definitely one not to be missed!
