A slice of New Zealand's musical sub-culture is the focus of new documentary Land Of the Long White Stain. Directed by Claire Duncan aka i.e. crazy, the 30-minute film is stitched together using digital footage and follows genre-bending artists Seth Frightening, Girls Pissing On Girls Pissing and Shab Orkestra as they rattle around the country to deliver intense live performances.

"While the songs themselves are the heroes of the story, behind-the-scenes footage permits a glimpse into the processes and world-views of a group of fiercely creative individuals whose work falls outside the ever-constrictive paradigms of popular music in New Zealand," says Duncan, whose close relationships with the artists allowed her a unique insight. "It’s a personal tribute to the music and people I love; their relentless pursuit of creative excellence, regardless of mainstream trends and taste," she says.

Land Of The Long White Stain is the first in a series of three original essay films and digital documentaries presented by The Lumiere Reader. Having premiered at Auckland's Wine Cellar last night, Land Of The Long White Stain is now available for streaming. Watch below...
