NEWTOWN ROCKSTEADY PLAY ST PETER’S HALL PAEKAKARIKI

November 2014, Paekakariki: Newtown Rocksteady is performing at St Peter’s Village Hall on Saturday November 29th.

Newtown Rocksteady’s inaugural performance at St Peter’s Village Hall in Paekakariki will take place on Saturday the 29th of November. It’s been a long time coming -Newtown Rocksteady having become something of a Wellington institution over the last five or six years- and individually, all members of the band have graced the St Peter’s Hall stage at one time or another. Never before though, have they performed together as Newtown Rocksteady at St Peter’s. This performance marks the beginning and also extension of what the band hopes will be an ongoing relationship with the people of Paekakariki and its surrounds. They will be supported by their friends from Beasts and Birds.

About The Band: From light, up-tempo rocksteady riddims to dark and stormy dub/reggae grooves Newtown Rocksteady’s music is both history lesson and natural progression. Comprised of highly active members of Wellington’s vibrant music scene, Newtown Rocksteady has a great depth of experience to call upon. Its members have been involved in numerous other groups including The Nudge, Brockaflowersaurus-rex, Fly My Pretties, Trinity Roots, The Merlin Webster Experience, Hikoikoi, Rhino Boogie, Roy G and Jessie James and The Outlaws to name a few. The band has its roots firmly embedded in the traditions of Jamaican rocksteady, ska and reggae music and is further nourished by its connection with its community. Hailing from the Wellington suburb of Newtown, ‘Rocksteady’ as it is known to many of its fans, began its existence playing at community events and stonking house parties; as such the band is well-versed in the art of getting bodies on the dance floor.

This will be a night to grab by the bells and let your inner elf out on the dance floor as the ‘festive season’ approaches (it’s always festive where these guys are concerned). Doors from 8:00pm music from 8:30pm, all over by 12:00pm and you can BYO.

The band will be touring in the South Island this summer including performances at Kaikoura Summersounds and old favourite, The Mussel Inn. 2015 will include shows at The Newtown Festival and Big Day Dowse, numerous Wellington shows and hopefully a repeat or two of their upcoming performance at St Peter’s Hall. Their music is available online from bandcamp.com and amplifier.co.nz.
