Yumi Zouma - Yoncalla Tour

Yumi Zouma are Christie Simpson, Sam Perry, Charlie Ryder, and Joshua Burgess. The bands evolution has been brisk since their inception in 2014 - having grown up in Christchurch, New Zealand, the band scattered after school - moving around the world, and collaborating over email to create Yumi Zouma’s first two EPs, before being asked to go on tour with the likes of Chet Faker and Lorde. During a three­-week break in touring, they set to work on their new, debut album, Yoncalla. Where the previous EPs were created in isolation, the new material was given a singular voice. After a week of mixing in Philippe Zdars Motorbass studio in Paris, the self­-recorded­ and self-­produced Yoncalla was born. “Yumi Zouma has always been an exercise in refining ideas and collaborating,” reflects guitarist Charlie Ryder, “but this was the first time we weren’t limited or protected by distance. With Yoncalla, the process was different, and it was weird to present raw ideas to each other in real time,­ but it’s also cool to see songs evolve through collaboration between people in the same room.” Yumi Zouma’s debut album Yoncalla is out now through Cascine (US), Arch Hill (NZ/AU), Rallye (JP), and Double Deer (IN).
