Crayon Fields (melbourne)
About Crayon Fields (melbourne) from Auckland
THE CRAYON FIELDS create shimmering pop that is entirely without pretension. Since the release of their Pitchfork-rated debut Animal Bells, the Melbourne band have quietly won over many fans and critics as they toured the country with a diverse range of artists of international acts including Cornelius, Deerhoof, Peter Bjorn and John, The Dirty Three, Lloyd Cole and Built To Spill. Their anticipated sophomore release is due in early 2009.
Geoff O’Connor, lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Melbourne quartet the Crayon Fields, is a myopic boy genius whose record collection consists almost solely of op-shop vinyl LPs released before 1970. Consequently, the Crayon Fields play intricate, atmospheric pop songs that recall the minor key majesty and close-knit harmonies of 60s maestros such as the Zombies, the Byrds and the Beach Boys.
