The Inverts
About The Inverts from Auckland
What do you get when you mix the old school heavy bass, divine horn solos and Jazz experimentation You get the enigma that is THE INVERTS.
Originally conceived in the unlikely spot of Cromwell and refined in Dunedin, The Inverts are the brain child of Nic Roland (The Taliband and Yule). Now based in Auckland the group produces a sound so unique that it really has to be “seen” to be understood. The driving force behind the band is the Rhythm III Drum Machine within the Lowery Organ. By using the continuous beats of the organ and combining them with the synth like, analogue bass also within the unit, The Inverts have a rhythm section that could rival any drummer +bassist combo. From a grooving Bossa Nova to a dark Drum and Bass beat the Lowery Organ will not only get your feet tapping but make you scratch your head in wonder.
Too really get the party started though we have thrown in some of New Zealand and world’s best horn talent. From town to town the Inverts have stashed horn members around the country, ready to throw down some of their best licks. Miho Wada is a Japanese born flute and saxophone player who has recently returned from the UK back to New Zealand. She is a professional full time musician and her flute playing can be heard on the recordings of Neil Finn, Conan Mockison and many others. She is a stable part of The Inverts and her flute solos are force to be reckoned with, not to mention her smooth style on the Sax. Mike Field from Canada features on the “Science Noir” EP. His sterling trumpet playing is a class above the rest and when he breaks into his freestyle jazz tangents expect a large roar from the crowd. Eammon Deverall, (One Million Dollars, D dub, The Taliband) is a genuine genius on the Baritone Saxophone, he will pop in during the Wellington shows alongside the likes of Ben Osullivan on Trumpet (The Taliband). As the Inverts grow, build and tour expect to see more special guests in each town and show.
This original concept of the organ and horn combination produces a sound that smells like Jazz, tastes like electro but can only be the Inverts.
