About Lynette Diaz from Christchurch
Lynette
Diaz is an American-born, New Zealand-based Singer-Songwriter with a
distinct passionate voice and writing style that's driven comparisions
to folk artists like Buffy Sainte-Marie and Tracy Chapman. Lynette
sings with a fiery voice that she attributes to her Mexican-American
roots. “Music comes through me, it’s a passion, it’s heart-filled, it’s
fun, it’s intense and it’s all rooted in my upbringing around a
hodgepodge of various styles of music from 60’s and 70’s folk/country,
contemporary music, independent singer-songwriter, 80’s techno and
traditional Mexican folklore music.
Lynette released her debut
Cd, “Lyrics In My Head’ in late 2008. The song ‘Living Before Dying’
has received honorable mention in the Unisong International Songwriting
Contest and Peacedriven Song Competition. Various songs from the Cd
have received airplay in NZ, Australia and United States. Lynette
currently performs throughout New Zealand as a solo acoustic artists
and/or as a duo with finger-style guitarist, Susan L. Grant or
Singer-Songwriter, Pete Love.
Besides
her own music, she is active in promoting other New Zealand female
acoustic artists through the New Zealand Women's Acoustic Collective,
which she founded in 2008 . The NZWAC celebrates a sense of community
and collaboration amongst member female artists.
Lynette is
also the radio host of "FemAcoustica Music and Review" , a monthly
radio show on Plains FM 96.9 (Christchurch), featuring female acoustic
artists, with an emphasis on New Zealand music
