K/line
About K/line from Hawkes Bay
Music isn’t taught, it is in the blood for these young NZ musicians - descendants of Ngati Kahungunu - Aotearoa.
Originating from Wairoa, Hawkes Bay – K/LINE are set to hit the NZ music scene, showcasing their refreshing & original Reggae/RnB/Pop flavour that excites the ears, energizes the soul and revives that home-grown party sound we love to hear.
K.G (Kiri Gilbert) formed K/LINE in 2010 alongside Wini (Winiata Puanaki) and EeZy (Ethan Browne) all close relatives, that have spent majority of their lives jammin together - down ‘Lucknow’, at various family events , practically everywhere & where they went a Guitar followed . K/LINE was a natural step for these 3 young & talented musicians to embark on their careers and future in the music industry.
K.G (Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), now 23years old, showed signs of his musical talent at the ripe age of 8 when writing his first original song and performing for family. By 9, he had picked up the Guitar, whilst learning to play by ear and by 13 had added Bass, Drums and Keyboard to his list of instrument ability.
K.G’z taste in music has evolved since he was 9 as an avid rapper to rnb singer, inspired by Michael Jackson & keen listener of Bone Thugs to Usher, his flavour of music has turned into – what he now calls “A perfect mix of RnB and Reggae”. K.G found the genres - when played together, added a new flavour that is fresh & lively, this new mix is now K/LINE’s style and genre of music.
K.G writes his own music by freestyling with his gat & his cell to record, he has a distinctive vocal tone –smooth, soulful, flowing and is a pure natural artist that will lead K/LINE into the future of NZ music.
Wini a.k.a Winiata Puanaki, Lead Guitarist and Vocalist of K/Line has amassed more than the average musician at 18 years of age. This guitar enthusiast started playing by ear at the early age of 7, followed by Bass and Drums with a little Keyboard and Sax experience. By 13, Wini was a NZ finalist for Play it Strange songwriters, making his mark in the music world and recording his original song that went on sale NZ wide on a compilation CD. Wini also has a wide range in music listening from Joe Satrianai and Bob Marley to Linkin Park which all inspired the artist he is today. Wini’s skill is vast, and at his age he already has a very high quality in musical ability & performance which we are sure to see in the future.
Ethan Browne a.ka EeZy is an astounding musician, playing almost any instrument with ease and a love of all genres. He is a well-rounded musician that has been part of a winning band in Pacifika Beats and at the age of 20 has found his fortieth as theDrummer for K/LINE, showcasing his expertise where ever he performs. Currently studying Health and Fitness at Wintec, EeZy is dedicated to K/LINE, all having the same goal to make it in the NZ Music industry and have K/LINE’s music heard by all.
Francis Ormond started his music career during college, where he learned to play the bass at the age of 13. A singer and all rounder of instrument ability, Francis turns up the heat with his musical talent on stage and his love of rock gives K/LINE a richness in sound. Francis returned home from Auckland at the end of 2010 after completing his studies of the Bass. His music influences include U2, Metallica, Michael Jackson and Steve Vai, he brings variety and is an asset to K/LINE’s originality.
As the final member of K/LINE, Charlie TeKahu was 7 years old when he taught himself how to play the guitar. A rock enthusiast from a young age, Char’s love of Pantera and Metallica helped to strengthen his vocal sound and give him the edge that is needed in music. Char also has a love of Reggae and Bob Marley, strong influences in his music and versatility as the harmony/vocalist of the band. Char plays Gat, Drums and Bass but was chosen by the band to join from his vocal ability alone. Even though Char’s vocal ability had been hidden for years , an opportunity arose for Charlie to perform with K/LINE and showcase his given talent. Since that day Charlie has become a part of the family, fitting in perfectly and completing K/LINE’s sound.
As a result, K/LINE are starting to climb the performing ladder, reaching more fans with local and national performances. Some of their highlights include Palmerston North – The Relay for Life, as opening act for 1814 and the various Pub, Concert, Party, Birthday, Wedding Gigs, for Charity and for fundraisers.
The bands individual personality shines and will be sure to get attention – cheeky, fun-loving, and energetic, laid-back and charismatic, all have strong family values and hearts of gold.
K/LINE, draw in a crowd with their exciting, pulse generating and lively-fun vibe that leaves fans wanting more everywhere they venture. Be sure to keep an eye on these up 'n' coming artists and keep on supporting NZ music.
