False Start

About False Start from Auckland

There is a band, on the minds of all those who have witnessed the phenomenon that is their live show...

There is a band, whose fans bear their name proudly on their favourite t-shirts and badges...

There is a band, surviving and outliving the hype that precedes them...

That band, is:

FALSE START.

“The band has recently signed on to Deadboy Records, with distribution and backing from Universal Music New Zealand, and will continue to gain critical mass as their independent sound begins to permeate the population." - Tearaway Magazine

"Destined for MORE, than the ordinary 'crash & burn' fate of most local bands, False Start promote positive messages and put the fun back into a sanctimonious local music scene

suffocated by Tall Poppy Syndrome." - vampedUP.co.nz

"The almost constant stream of gigging, including supporting St Louis band Story Of The Year, has earned the band an extremely tight-knit and loyal fan base, as evidenced by a quick browse on their myspace pages..." - NZ Musician

"Having formed just ten months ago, this hardworking 5-piece are steadily building a fan-base around the country for their accessible blend of pop, rock and punk - and particularly in the youth demographic, on account of their preference for playing all- ages shows." - Groove Guide

With each member of False Start having immersed himself in music ever since he can remember, it was intuitive that False Start would form in the Winter of 2005. With members stemming from already established New Zealand bands such as Forever Now, New Ending and past Rockquest winner: Incursa, musical artistry comes naturally. Fusing together rock and poppunk

into catchy, accessible anthems is second nature. Having played well over 100 shows since forming, False Start kicked off a year of rigourous gigging in June 2005 by winning the

Henderson regional heat of the Primal Battle of the Bands, eventually claiming first equal in the Primal final, out of over a hundred Auckland bands.

Since then, False Start have become one of the hardest working bands in New Zealand, releasing their first single 'Don't Walk Away' plus the debut, 'Goodbye Summer EP'. As well as sharing stages with international acts: Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Story Of The Year, Death By Stereo, The Valley, From The Hearts Of Heroes and kiwi friends: The Bleeders, Goodnight Nurse, Trigger Theory, My Life Story, The Rabble, Cold By Winter, Streetwise Scarlett, The Midnight Youth and Mumsdollar, just to name a few.

Despite an animated string of appearances on C4 TV, The EDGE and ZM radio station nightshows, Juice TV, Auckland's ALT TV, performing at the Parachute Music festival amongst

bands such as 'Anberlin' and 'Day of Fire.', filming an independent music video for lead single 'Goodbye Summer' (which features the vocals of Jaden Parkes from Goodnight Nurse), and even posing as zombies in a fashionshoot at Auckland Zoo for Stella magazine, False Start still remained remarkably grounded.

"We're not really like a band, we're like a family. We hang out all the time, we're like best mates."

False Start finish off each other's sentences in kodak worthy moments with doting fans hanging off their every word.

Spending considerable time always touring and making sure to keep in personal contact with their fans either online or at shows, means that False Start has an incredibly, tightly networked fan-base. With multiple street teams formed and cliques such as the infamous "False Start Stalkers" myspace.com profile, it's blatantly obvious that False Start have the most truly loyal fans, the likes of, who normally reserve their devotion for international bands.

Not to mention, the ricocheting votes that propelled False Start to come 4th in the cut-throat 'Jacklive Big Day Out (Live & Local) Competition', out of over 100 New Zealand bands. For

further proof that False Start's fans have truly taken this West Auckland band to heart, you need only add yourself to the 10,300 strong online community found on False Start's

myspace.com/falsestartband profile.

False Start's impassioned, independent ‘DIY’ ethic hasn't gone unrecognised. The 'Goodbye Summer EP' sold out on the first night of sales to a packed out instore performance at Real Groovy Records in Auckland, launching them onto the Real Groovy National chart debuting at #3.

Shortly after, Angelo Munro [lead singer of The Bleeders], signed False Start to his own record label, Deadboy Records with distribution/backing from Universal Music NZ. Having conquered eastern Australia with a string of shows through the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, False Start have also caught the eye of Australian press, gaining recognition from Tsunami, Time-Off and Chik magazines.

Back home, False Start vocalist: Andrew Morrison was

consulted by Real Groove magazine on the "emo" debate, and Jimmy Diamond voiced his thoughts on smoking and drinking in Creme Magazine.

Self-professed fashioncore kids, False Start are critically acclaimed as having "a vigourous live show that includes spin kicks, jumps, guitar spins, and a fair bit of stick twirling and throwing."

False Start consistently deliver extraordinarily energetic performances, bouncing off the walls with dedicated conviction that their fans mirror. With all five band members perfecting their musicianship and going the extra mile to further hone and evolve their sound, your not just guaranteed a mind-blowing live show from False Start...

Expect, "blood, sweat and tears."

Expect, entertainment, energy and enthusiasm.

Expect, the unexpected and brace yourself for a little something called "rock & roll".

"When we get up on stage, we just wanna have the most energetic show possible. We really want to give as much energy as the kids do."

False Start look forward to the release of their mini-album ‘Adore Tu Ser...’ in New Zealand on May 14th via Deadboy Records with distribution from Universal Music NZ, not to mention more time hanging out with their fans, who are currently voting & requesting False Start’s latest single

‘Mall Goth’ like it’s going out of style. Expect the second single from ‘Adore Tu Ser...’ next month.

False Start are bringing their hot, energy driven sound to the masses.

False Start are breaking out from being the Auckland music scene's best kept secret, to claim rightfully deserved nation-wide fame.

False Start are determined to succeed and they have a prodigious fan-base backing them every single step of the way.

The proof, is in the faces and hearts of every False Start fan.

Consider yourself warned. A False Start take-over is imminent and in their own words:

"YOU BETTER LOOK OUT cos I'll never let you bring me down today."
