Forming in 2003 as a three-piece, Flight Path was impregnated in the mind of Hadley Spence in Surfers Paradise, Australia in an adolescent time of spiritual discovery. Never intending to be a band trying to break on to the billboard charts, Flight Path are a band which encompasses audible and visual dynamics whilst leading the listener/viewer through some form of a story line.
With his new found passion Hadley came home to Auckland, New Zealand and talked through his ideas with friend/guitarist/pro-golfer Adam and friend/guitar hero Mike. These three chaps meet weekly and fiddled around with a few ideas, with Hadley switching from guitar to bass they wrote an early version of Flicker and numerous cacophonies that were soon considered sub-standard, and promptly jettisoned / re-written. This continued, each member gradually adapting to the ‘band’ environment, for the next two and a half years.
Hadley always maintained his desire to have a story entwined with the music and brought in a storyline for the band to incorporate, full of imagery and drama. (This story will be released in full in the album). That merging with Mike’s Page-esk riffery and Adz’ finesse of Dave Gilmour meant good things happened.
As you can imagine after two and a half years the three wanted to show some of their material to friends and family and it soon became clear that they needed a drummer.
The completion of the line up came in October 2005 with Ben Josephson joining on drums. Nine months and a re-writing of many songs later Flight Path played their first gig, at Shadows bar in Auckland University Campus.
Since then they’ve collectively decided to ditch vocals and lead viewers through the music with visuals (in progress). Check them out at their myspace page
