Bellebird & The Handsome Gypsies
About Bellebird & The Handsome Gypsies from Invercargill
Bellebird began as a female acoustic duo in the deep south of New
Zealand in 2007. Combining Anna Van Riel and Jo Littles solo talents
together they created an eclectic and unique style of bluegrass/jazz
& alt country to entertain the masses. With beautiful vocal
harmonies woven over a range of instrumental accompaniments, including
guitar, bass, ukulele, flute, harmonica and kazoo. Since Bellebird’s formation the pair have taken the
south by storm opening for touring artists Karen
Hunter, Tim Guy, Paul McClaney, Age Prior and Luke Hurley. They have
also made regular appearances on Invercargill’s CUE TV, featuring in
the local newspapers Southern Express, Southland Times and the Otago
Daily Times on numerous occasions.
At the end of 2008 Bellebird embarked on their first ever tour of NZ
enlisting the talents of JR Richardson (bass/vocals) and Michael
Bradford (Accordion/Mandolin) who together formed the 'Handsome
Gypsies'. Bellebird & The Handsome Gypsies entertained 34 venues
over their two month tour with raving revues. They have released their first
EP 'Flying North' containing 7 tracks recorded in the South, which is avaliable for purchase on trademe see: www.myspace.com/bellebirds for more details.
