Released on the label owned by fellow New Zealand rock n¹ roll faves The Datsuns, Semaphore is a record to loose yourself in  an intense piece of disembodied rock experimentation that looks set to establish Jakob as an international talent to rival the likes of Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mogwai and Sigur Ros.

The current lineup of Jakob (Jeff Boyle  guitar, Jason Johnston ¬ drums, Maurice Beckett ¬bass) began in July 1998 in Napier  a prominent city in New Zealand¹s North Island, and where the band still reside ¬ playing gigs in local pubs. The same year they released their debut, self-titled EP with Venn Studios producer/engineer David Holmes, and toured prolifically through 1999.

In March 2001 they were reunited with Holmes to record their debut full-length Subsets of Sets (Midium) that saw them get play listed on the BBC¹s John Peel show as well as earning nominations for Best New Artist and Best Album respectively at the 2001 and 2002 College Radio New Zealand Music Awards.
Successive tours and an appearance at the 2002 Big Day Out Festival, as well as playing with the likes of Pelican in the USA and Mono in the UK in 2003 of which during that year they returned to the studio for their second and current album Cale:Drew (also through Midium). Semaphore is their first single from Cale:Drew and is available on 7" only along with unreleased b-side,To Be Locked Up.
