Q + A with Reuben from Bandicoot.

Been around since:

January 2009

Current line up?

Pearl - Vox/Noisebass
Reuben - Guitar/Bass/Rapping
Daniel – Drums

Where are you based?

Kelston Ghetto.

What got you into music?

Grew up listening to it, seemed a natural progression to play it.

How did you get together?

I wanted to start a band, and asked two good friends. Basically the wholes story eh.

How would you describe your sound?

Hardcore-Noise-Spazz-Pop

What are you listening to at the moment?

Notorious B.I.G, Die! Die! Die!, Metronomy, Tommy Ill

What is your writing/recording process?

I'll write a song a home, then jam it out with Daniel, while Pearl writes lyrics.

Your Dream Collaboration?

Something with Beck would be awesome. Or Andre 3000. Or Brian Chippendale. Or Animal Collective.

Do you have any releases our or on the way?

We have a free download EP that we recorded at my house in 2 days. It's more like demos, but its kinda cool. We're doing a single, with B-sides and shizz next month, then in January we're putting out a proper EP! We've also got a split with Moron Says What?!?! that will be out sometime next year. Ideally.

What do you enjoy most about music?

Playing good shows?!?!

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learnt musically in the last year?

I've learnt how to do better feedback. the amp just needs to be turned up louder. Which is sweet.

What’s the best concert you have ever been to?

The King Brothers w/ the DHDFDs and The Incident.

Best or most memorable gig you have played?

Probably a few weeks ago at the Basement, it was pretty full and we put the drumkit in the crowd. It was awesome. Or when we played in Wellington (My mum drove us down to play at a house party!), we played 3 times in one night (We got another gig). Then felt as if we were going to die.

If you could share the stage with anyone (band or person) who would it be?

Whirlwind Heat? Sonic Youth? At the Drive-In? Slayer? Lightning Bolt? Slint?

Most overrated band at the moment?

NO AGE

Most underrated band at the moment?

Whirlwind Heat. No one seems to know them. It makes me very sad, cos they're like on of my favourtie bands.

The future holds…?

Tour with U2, Coldplay and Evermore, selling out to Mc Donalds and disowning everyone who isn't famous. :P

The state of music in NZ is….

Alright. The bands that the general population know are shit, except the Mint Chicks. Everyone should listen to all the bands on the label, Tommy Ill and Moron Says What?!?!
