It was always going to be a tough night competing with the free booze at the NZ music awards, but for those who chose substance, they were rewarded.
Yeasayer are a band that could command large auditoriums but seemed equally at home squeezed down the corner of 4:20 on Krd.
They were performing just for us, just for the folks in eye view, and it really felt welcoming. When the band mentioned they’d be sticking around for a few days there was quite a reaction from the crowd.
Their set morphed in-between repetitive swinging songs, to cinematic muiti vocalists ensembles and nothing seemed to ever get out of place. In a word, captivating.
Big nod to support band Brand New Math who really impressed me tonight - good match.
Thanks again Strange News, one to remember
