The Mint Chicks is the only good thing ever nominated for a NZ Music award, everything else, including these nominations is just boring crap imitating whats doing well in overseas markets. BBBOOORRRING.

So you think I'm nominated because I know Campbell? What?

Sweet, I made a 5k video - my first for a band other than my own, up against 35k videos from well seasoned directors. The reason the video is nominated is because of the song, Sola Rosa are a f**king great band and I'm happy for them to get the nomination.

You're entitled to your opinion but don't accuse me of this conspiracy shit. Sick of this attitude that there is some kind of secret club in New Zealand music. There is no secret club, just people who work hard and lazy f**ks that sit online criticizing.

The whole awards are a conspiracy? Does Campbell Smith choose the nominees? Don't the bands nominate themselves and a separate panel decide the finalists?

Maybe I'm wrong but this sounds like a bunch of sour people who didn't get nominated and/or rockshop employees.

I thought the nominations were all a pretty good reflection of what I've been hearing on radio and seeing on TV. Its good to see big budget stuff show down with the low budget across a lot of categories too.

Someone is always gonnna know someone in a country this small, and whether these bands are good or not is a matter of opinion. But the fact still remains that there IS conflict of interest in Boh's nomination, and to a lesser extend the sola rosa video. Will be interesting to see how those two catogories are placed as the nominees in question are obviously far inferior to the other ones in their catogory.
Who cares anyway? The tuis suck, and so Campbell $mith. Its all just business. Also, Ray Columbus was only with the invaders for a few years, he should be getting the award solo. Good on him!!

Congrats to all the nominees, alongside those who didn't make the cut this year. I'm a general music lover and I approve of these awards!

The "hard working" argument is dumb - heaps of bands and independent managers and small labels and general music lovers work hard to get music out there and will never ever been nominated for these awards. Truth is it's all about who you know just like any industry - which is fine but at least stop misleading people into thinking these awards represent NZ - rather they represent the music industry - they should be called the NZ Music Industry Awards.

Creepy, you are creepy. Stop thinking about c**k so much.
Reckon Boh Runga's been nominated for putting in work: writing, recording and releasing an album. She's married, so what?
Reckon that Tim Van Dammen has been nominated for putting in work: he makes a lot of videos for a lot of bands. He has a band as well, so uh...what?
Is this all a giant conspiracy? Crikey, imagine if the music industry people weren't allowed to work together (or hook up) for fear of conflicts of interest when it comes to awards time. Everyone would have to do all the work themselves without support or help, making thier own videos and managing every single aspect of their lives. Get a grip.

like always, the good old 'we are new zealanders and we should bow to minority music styles' brigade are having their whiney and pathetic veiws about the nomination list for the nz music awards. names are on this list because they have done well and they have success in the industry, why waste time recording an album if you dont want anyone to hear it. University pholosophy courses and green tea await for the naysayers as they congratulate themselves on their potent and wastefull veiws.

They should really be called the RIANZ Music Awards.

Does anyone else find it odd that Campbell Smiths (the head of RIANZ/CRS management/person who decides on funding/awards/big day out nz slots/everything) WIFE Boh Runga is being nominated for best female?
Another conflict of interest would be Tim Van Dammen being nominated for best video, his band is with Smiths management company.
Not as many conflicts as normal tho, I suppose its because most of Campbell Smiths acts (Scribe, Brooke Fraiser, the Have, Blindspott, The Bleeders, Elemeno P)having done anything worth of note in the last year.

Guess you don't have to suck a lot of c**k to make it in NZ music, just ONE enormous pulsating penis.

I hope Lady Hawke cleans up.

Boring - how disappointing - again - whoever the judges were are just lazy, I bet they didn't even bother listening to most of the stuff submitted just picked bands/artists who have hype and who's name they recognised. Lame! Congrats to Cut Off Your Hands and Ladyhawke but that's all.

Ladyhawke shouldnt be on there, sure shes a NZer by birth but none of her music has been produced here. Also if midnight youth win anything over mint chicks i will be quite angry. Cheap overproduced garbage.
