A Low Hum October 07

A Low Hum – Here to confuse you.

Each month when planning a tour I try to choose a group of bands that really compliment each other, bands that have a similar sound and vibe. This month, I thought… nah… screw that. Instead I thought I'd try to choose three bands who were so vastly different to each other that under normal circumstances they would never play with each other… but in the warped mind of this deluded promoter, that maybe, just maybe they'll combine to form the ultimate show.

Fresh from signing a two album deal with rad UK label "Memphis Induustries", home to The Go! Team, and heading up this illusion of confusion is awesome Auckland indie pop orchestra Ryan McPhun and The Ruby Suns! Perhaps their final shows under their original name, the band will soon be dropping the "Ryan McPhun" from their name to release their future albums as "The Ruby Suns". Headed up by the multi-talented and charming Mr. Ryan McPhun, this awesome band of oddballs create some of the most magical and incredible music around. With a UK release imiment, make sure you catch this band now so you can you saw them before they played Wembley Stadium.

Blink…Blink…Blink…what are you thinking? Four white boys playing funk music? Theoretically this next band should be terrible! Funk not your thing? I don't blame ya, well try adding a little soul in there, a dash of r'n'b, add some jazz, then give it all a garage rock'n'roll spin and you might just end up with something as fantastically danceable as Wellingtons twisted dance secret, OdESSA! Wellington hepcats have known for years now that if they want to party like its 1967 then, you get your motown on and you head out to an OdESSA show. I've put on shows for these guys in the past and looked around the room and seen bogans, indie-kids, goths, punks, rockers, poppers and everyone shaking their ass. It's like the end of a Hollywood film where America has just saved the World and everyone is Rejoicing, except that OdESSA just saved the dance and the party to end all partys has begun.

So we got an indie pop band and a garage funk band, ummm..what next? How bout a new-wave grunge-punk-pop-band?

I'd heard a few good things about this next band through the grapevine and so asked them to play at one of the shows on my tour in August and they were awesome! Two young ladys from Auckland , The Bengal Lights are a brand new guitar and drum combo who owe more to The Yeah, Yeah Yeahs then the Parliament Funkadelic. Sounding like Karen O mashing it up with Kim Deal and Kim Gordon, it don't get much better then that.

The compilation this month, as usual, kicks ass with tracks from the bands on tour and heaps more. This months feature album, I am pleased as PUNCH to release. As yet The Enright House has not performed a single live show, but by golly if he hasn't recorded some incredible music. He'll be releasing his new album very soon, but I have the disctinct pleasure of releasing his first EP "Broken Hands" on this very tour. I love this EP and haven't stopped listening to it since I stumbled upon it a month or two ago.

This tour is your last chance to get CAMP A Low Hum tickets at the discounted early rate of $125 each. Also, if you want a South Island special ticket - $225, get in quick cause half of them have been sold already!
