Big Day Out 2011 - Let The Rumours Begin

Big Day Out 2011 - Let The Rumours Begin

Wednesday 18th August, 2010 3:45PM

UPDATE: Friday 24th September.

Soundgarden will not headline the Big Day Out next year. We saw the rumour first on Undercover.com.au and now BDO have let another clue drop about the headline acts saying neither have ever broken up, which of course Soundgraden have. Undercover also say that Blink 182 is a "well known leak" and back up the Grinderman rumour.  Stone Temple Pilots are also looking highly unlikely according to fasterlouder.com.au.

UPDATE: Wednesday 22nd Sept

According to a reliable source of thecorner.co.nz the/a headline act will be Tool (from LA) with Primal Scream and Grinderman also being confirmed.

Sounds entirely plausible...

UPDATE:  Monday 20th September

The first BDO 2011 line-up is being announced next Tuesday 28th September from around 8.30am.

In the meantime BDO promoters have been dropping a few clues, revealing that there will be TWO headline acts and one is from Los Angeles. They have also hinted that one headliner will play an album in it's entirety.

Soundgarden is still the strongest of the rumours but were originally based in Seattle so lets assume they still are. Stone Temple Pilots are also still rumoured and were originally from Long Beach, it wouldn't be a stretch to say they were still in the area. Soundgarden/Stone Temple Pilots double headline?  Could work....what have you heard?

------

With the line-ups for two major Australian summer festivals revealed, it's now time to start thinking about who may be gracing our shores for next years Big Day Out....

We've combed the internet and here are a few strongly rumoured internationals and the odd wildcard pick:

Soundgarden
Already reformed this year and do seem to like coming down under.

P.I.L
The post punk band from Jonny Rotten have played al throughout US this year, ending up in Ireland in September

Stone Temple Pilots
More 90s heavyweights, The band recently spoke to Stuff and mentioned "I want to get down there and I speak on behalf of all of us. I think we're going to head down right after the New Year, sometime in January ... I don't care if it's the Big Day Out. I just want to come down and play for you all."

Hole
is also being bantered about. The Nelson raised singer (for a few years anyway) has been here a few times and has recently mentioned "I think we're doing Big Day Out".

Deftones
BDO veterans and seems to be on everyone's rumour list.

Janelle Monae
Big Boi
The Black Keys
Crystal Castles
Kate Nash
Kele
Vivian Girls
Wavves
Roky Erikson with Okkervil River
Flaming Lips
MIA
Arcade Fire
Spoon
MGMT

It's highly unlikely that anyone playing Soundwave or Falls Festival will play BDO as well - with that in mind, what do you reckon? Who else would you like to see?
