The Demi Whores release their debut album
Auckland understated heroes of the music scene are releasing their debut album (we say finally) after 5 years of wowing audiences around NZ.
The Demi Whores released their debut
album on Friday 13th October, exactly five
years after their first ever show, supporting
the Datsuns back in 2001.
They are Marcus Francis Joyce on Bass,
Edward Samuel Gains on guitar & vocals
and Anthony Eden Pompeus on drums.
The self-titled album was recorded mixed
and mastered by Murray Fisher (goodshirt,
Voom) in his Sandringham studio, shortly
after their NZ dates with Interpol in 2005.
All the main tracks were recorded in one
day as the band wanted to capture their
manic ‘live’ element, and initially it was
going to be an e.p. but by the end of the day
they had 15 songs - some of them recorded in
one take. Nathan Means from Trans Am was
roped in for keyboards on a couple of tracks.
The songs on the album are a mix of live
favourites ‘Pussy Moon’ and ‘Purple
Balloon’ and newer songs like ‘Bless My
Family’ and recent b.net/the Rock/Kiwi
hit ‘Title is Untitled’. The video for this
song was made by Orlando Stuart (Wayne
Anderson: Singer of Songs TV2) - who
is also currently making a documentary
about Edward Gains for the International
Film Festival.
The detailed album artwork has been
done by both Edward and Marcus, whose
separate styles are well known within the
music community, due to impressive CV’s
(the Fix, Mystery Girl Productions, A Low
Hum, Big Day Out Magazine etc).
The Demi Whores release the album on
their own label I am Evil Records - set up
especially for the album but also now a
vehicle for the solo music and artwork
of Edward Gains. It is available at
www.iamevilrecords.com and through
all Real Groovy
They will have
the official release party at the Schooner
Tavern on Sat 28 October with a tour of the
main centres to follow shortly after.
