Album Preview: David Kilgour and The Heavy Eights - Left By Soft

Monday 18th April, 2011 9:57AM

David Kilgour and The Heavy Eights are set to release their first album as a group in four years next Monday via Arch Hill Recordings. We got in touch with David and asked him to select a few tracks for us to preview in the lead up and to give us a bit of background to each track.

You can stream the tracks via the player below and here's what David had to say about them...

Way Down Here - is a somewhat older song we have attempted a few times but never been able to pull it off. Jeepers it could be about 10 years old or more. I was toying with the idea of a concept Lp way back when and this was one of the tracks that set the idea off. It's basically referring to the migration of New Zealand and supposedly NZ was one of the last places to be inhabited by man as they thought there were no prevailing winds to get back from NZ! Once you enter you can never leave! But also refers the isolation of NZ and what that feels like. Shlock Rock.

A Break In the Weather - is sung to a Sam Hunt poem some time after the Falling Debris LP had been released.

Autumn Sun - written to a loop that Matt Swanson from Lambchop sent me a while back.

Theme - written for the soundtrack to an Anish Kapoor documentary by Bridget Sullivan.

Diamond Mine - co written with Tony from the 8's. What it’s like to live though capitalism! But also at the end of it all I think there is a light!

I'll Walk Back Up that Hill - was originally a tongue in check swipe at religion. Still is but obscured.

Purple Balloon - was recently used in the Sam Hunt Movie soon to be released. Purple Balloon is the title of an old Sam hunt poem.

THIS PREVIEW HAS EXPIRED - ALBUM OUT NOW!
