Thursday 21st April, 2011 9:39AM

Ladi6 has taken out the second ever Tait Music Prize for her latest album The Liberation Of. The winner was reveled last night at a small awards ceremony in Auckland and included a performance by last years winner Lawrence Arabia.

Ladi was up against seven other finalist who were whittled down from over seventy submissions. She'll receive a cash prize of $10,000 which will certainly come in handy on her upcoming European tour.

Here is latest video from The Liberation Of for  "Like Water" :

Other finalists included:

Dudley Benson - Forest: Songs by Hirini Melbourne (Golden Retriever Records)
Connan Mockasin - Please Turn Me Into the Snat (Self released)
Julia Deans - Modern Fables (Tardus Music)
Die! Die! Die! - Form (Flying Nun)
The Naked and Famous - Passive Me, Aggressive You (Somewhat Damaged)
The Phoenix Foundation - Buffalo (The Phoenix Foundation)
Street Chant - Means (Arch Hill Recordings)

The Taite Music Prize was established last year to honour the memory of music journalist Dylan Taite. The award is aimed at recognising the artistic merit rather than chart placings, sales or publicity.
