Download: Paquin - Tether

Wednesday 8th June, 2011 3:02PM

We do love our shoegaze here at UTR, so have been easily won over by the first single from Paquin, a new outfit centered around musician and producer Thomas Healy. Usually found on the other side of the recording desk, Healy has recently collated his own work into an EP out in August. Have a listen to first single "Tether" below and click through to download and to listen to the rest of the EP.

Press Release:

Floating between sugary waves of shoegaze, electro and pop, Paquin is the musical personality of Thomas Healy.

Recording for the Paquin EP started in 2010, melding abrasive psychedelic guitars with pop melodies and dance influenced synths and rhythms.

This led to drafting in musicians to realise the music in a live format, steering the EP away from bedroom pop, towards a full band sound that was achieved recording in the Mt Eden studio The Lab.

As a live unit Paquin smear pop melodies with synths, samples, dynamic fuzzy guitars, and pulsing drums, connecting threads between the warm electro of Cut Copy and the drifting distortion of My Bloody Valentine.

Between engineering or producing records for other artists (Popstrangers, Die!Die!Die!, The Naked and Famous, Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea, The Low Spark) and playing in a variety of bands (The Verlaines, Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea, Faint Spells, The Low Spark, Hannah Curwood) Thomas Healy has built Paquin as a statement of intent, a vehicle for intoxicating and unusual pop to dance to.

PAQUIN will be playing the following shows in June & July. More dates to follow ...

18th June Lucha Lounge, Auckland
08th July Khuja, Auckland
