Friday Flashback: Dick Dale - Misirlou
Surf guitar pioneer Dick Dale was introduced to a new generation of fans in the 90s when his iconic track 'Misirlou' was used in the opening credits of Quentin Tarantino's now cult classic Pulp Fiction. Those encouraged by the movie to delve into Dale's back catalogue would not doubt have been impressed by how progressive Dale's music was/is.
If ol' wiki is correct, 'Misirlou' started life in the 1920s as a Greek folk song and was rearranged an released by Dale in 1962. The track's history in film is also long, first appearing in American movie A Swingin Affair in 1963 where Dale and backing band the Del Tones were featured playing live, take a look...
