Friday Flashback: The Rolling Stones - Paint It, Black

Friday Flashback: The Rolling Stones - Paint It, Black

Friday 4th May, 2012 2:48PM

With Dirty Records celebrating their tenth anniversary tonight in Auckland we asked label founder Callum August for his favourite track from the 60s/70s and his answer came as a bit of a surprise....

Whilst quick to point out that the The Rolling Stones are all 'ball bags',  he does have a soft spot for their track 'Paint it, Black' which featured in the opening credits of eighties television series Tour of Duty about the Vietnam War. The show was a childhood favourite and the soundtrack was the first 12" record he ever bought.

The Rolling Stones released 'Paint it, Black' in 1966 and it was originally conceived as comedy track but it turned out to be anything but...

Here are the opening credits of Tour of Duty:

And here are the Stones performing the track live...

If in Auckland tonight get along to The Studio where a line-up of label alumni will perform including David Dallas, Scribe, P Money, PNC and more. Entry comes with a copy of the 10 Years of Dirty compilation - click here for more information and to grab a ticket.
